MV Orion Updates Availability & Schedule

 

Trips start in Male and usually last for 8 days, 7 nights.

MV Orion does not follow a fixed route or itinerary, as the Cruise Director and Dive Guides will change the route to best fit the prevailing weather conditions, to maximize your diving experience.

 

Routes:

The areas covered at different times of year and the highlights of those areas are listed below:

August - early October, "Manta Madness"/ "Pelagic Magic" depending on the Moon Phase:

  • Baa Atoll, Hanifaru Bay and other great dive sites. (Hanifaru and Baa Atoll depending on conditions that week and up coming changes in regulations concerning this area)
  • North Male Atoll, Paradise Manta Point Cleaning Station
Depending on Weather and Diving conditions the Cruise Director will decide between a) Rasdhoo and North Ari or b) Lhavyani and Gaafaru
a)
  • Rasdhoo Atoll, Hammerhead Dive, Beautiful Reef with Pelagics
  • North Ari Atoll, Whalesharks, Grey Reef Sharks, Maaya Thila Night Dive
b)
  • Lhaviyani Atoll, Famous Kuredu Express, Mantas at Fushifaru Kandu
  • Gaafaru, Wrecks of the SS Seagull, Lady Christina and Erlangen.

On "Pelagic Magic" route we will concentrate attention in Ari and Male Atolls looking for Mantas and Whale Sharks.

October - January, April - May, "Best of Maldives":

  • Rasdhoo Atoll, Hammerhead Dive, Beautiful Reef with Pelagics
  • North Ari Atoll, Grey Reef Sharks, Maaya Thila Night Dive, Multiple Manta Cleaning Stations
  • South Ari Atoll, Whalesharks, Beautiful Pinnacles
  • South Male Atoll, Grey Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays, Other Pelagics, Beautiful Macro Wreck
  • Vaavu Atoll, Grey Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays, Other Pelagics, Traditional Maldivian Channel Diving
  • North Male Atoll, Beautiful Pinnacles

February - March, "Deep South - Southern Sharks": (Recommended Min 100 Dives, Experience in Current)
  • Huvadhoo Atoll. Hammerheads, Silky Sharks, Tiger Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks, Amazing corals, late night swim with the Whale Shark. Plenty of channel dives.

January - April, "South Central": (Reccomended Min 100 Dives, Experience in Current)
  • Vaavu; Beautiful Channels with magical Soft Coral and Pelagic delights, action packed night dive with Nurse Sharks,
  • Thaa, Hammerhead Dive, Occasionally Mola Mola
  • Meemu, Beautiful Channels with pelagic action, Sailfish, Grey Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays, and Beautiful Soft Coral. Manta Cleaning Station
  • Laamu Atolls: Grey Reef Sharks, Fushi Kandu with spellbounding volume of fish life, Alex's favourite site.

Typical 7 nights cruise Itinerary

Day 1: Meeting & Greeting in the airport upon guests' arrival. Our rep Roxanne  (+9607432948) wears MV Orion T-Shirt and has MV Orion sign so you can easily recognize her. Transfer to the boat at 13:00. If your flights time do not match with our transfer time, please, contact us to see what other transfer time we can arrange for you. If you need to take a domestic flight to join the boat, Roxanne will meet you and show you the way to the domestic terminal. The meeting point is near the Help Desk. You can call us from there, local phone will be provided for you.

Introductions and briefings, equipment preparation and set up. No diving


Day 2 through 6: Two to four dives per day. Typically, the schedule for the day is as follows, however, the timings can be different depepnding on the exact route and weather conditions:

06:00 Wake up call

06:30 Briefing, coffee&tea and toasts, 1st Dive

08:30 - 09:00 Breakfast

11:00 2nd Briefing and Dive

13:00 Lunch

15:00 - 15:30 3rd Briefing and Dive

17:00 Afternoon tea and snacks (normally a cake)

19:00 Dinner

Day 7: Two dives, Male City tour upon request and depending on the route and weather conditions

Day 8: Check out, transfer to airport @ 0700 & 0900 hrs  No diving
